Worcester History Centre "The Hive"

General Information on The Hive Worcestershire County Council pages covering what records they hold and how to access them (only in person) at The Hive.



The Hive is Worcester's new combined City and University Library and as such has long opening hours for students to use. Currently (Jan 2014) and for the last year these have been 08:30 to 22:00, 7 days a week, with the odd holiday exception. This includes self-service microfilms/fiche and readers. History staff and archive records are not available for all of this time and given the cuts in local government. will reduce further. Check link above for current opening and staff information before you visit.

• Three car parks near by (all charge),
• Worcester Foregate St. railway station, 8 min. walk
• WiFi for laptops/tablets is allowed, as is access to computers (including Ancestry Library Edition) with library card. Own laptop on their WiFi will access own subscriptions to databases such as FMP and Ancestry. Take photo ID and proof of address to get library card or temp access - Photo Driving Licence will do.
• CARN cards are used for original archive material.
• Good cafe on site; Food & drinks allowed next to fiche readers and computers; Great clean toilets. Disabled facilities: include hight adjustable tables, and Shopmobility is located in one of the nearest car parks.

Worcester Records Office is in a different location, about three miles away but you can more easily apply for Worcestershire BMD certificates online .
