Useful dates in British history for the local historian or genealogist.

“. . . with a few others added in for good measure!...” [I quote]

An easy-to-read potted history of dates of social, political, economic, environmental and religious events. Excellent for a quick understanding of the times in which your ancestors lived. Dates range from BC 4004 up to and including 2012.

There is also a very useful book 'UK Timeline for Family Historians' by Angela Smith and Neil Bertram. Published by The Book Forge ISBN 978-0-9571287-0-5

Those with ancestors who were victims of 'The Highland Clearances' might struggle to find a reference to this shameful period. The euphemistically entitled 1813 act of parliament is however, on the list, but with no explanation about the significance, or the resultant diaspora.
