The Tees Valley Indexes can be searched for Births, Marriages and Death certificates held at Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Stockton-on-Tees and Redcar & Cleveland Register Offices.
This covers the part of South Durham and North Yorkshire that used to be called Cleveland.
The marriage search gives the spouse's name, which is always useful.

I have used this site and find the people there very helpful.

The site no longer includes Stockton, unfortunately. And looking at Stockton council's website it seems that their indexes are no longer available on-line.

Hartlepool records are no longer on this site leaving only Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland.
