The website for the Federation of Family History Societies has details of all the FH societies in England and Wales (Scotland has it's own Association ). If you have relatives in a particular area they are particularly useful as a resource - all have specialist knowledge of their area, some produce their own CDs etc, and can provide a research service if you are having difficulties with or are unable to carry out your own research. They also usually have a list of members interests. All of them, I am sure, welcome new members!

The Federation only have the societies listed on their site, that are members. There are other societies around that have not joined the federation, eg Kent FHS and they often have meetings in a few different areas.
