Y-DNA of father & son?

On FTDNA I have done tests on both father & son. Father to 111 level and son to 37 level. Currently FTDNA are doing a promotion so I thought I could upgrade the son to 111 level. But hold on a minute, the son will not inherit any more historical Y-DNA from the father. If it was two brothers that might be different.

By doing 37 level for son it is clear he is a genetic son, not that there was any doubt!

    Just checking my understanding.

Absolutely no point upgrading the son's test.

But if you are going to order a Y-DNA test for someone else, please wait for my next newsletter so that you can use my link and support LostCousins!
