Iddo's weddings

    I wonder why Iddo said, "I do." He should have said, "I Iddo Smetheahum take thee Emma to my wedded wife . . . , " after he and his bride had each said, "I will." I was once at a wedding when the bride (another Emma), overcome by emotion, had difficulty in voicing her response, albeit in an alternative form to that set out in the Book of Common Prayer. The rector commented to me after the service that, until she managed it, he had been worried that the wedding might not be achieved.
