In recent weeks the Findmypast login page has included an option to log in using Facebook. I have noticed the same thing with other organisations such as PayPal. As someone who has decided against getting involved with Facebook and other social media I do not understand what the benefit is to these organisations if their users log in through Facebook. Can anyone please enlighten me?

I'm not sure there is any benefit to the organisation, it's just another way to log-in, like using a fingerprint on a phone - it means the user doesn't have to remember the password for every site. It's Facebook I wouldn't trust.

I'm inclined to agree, and yet it can be hard to avoid engaging with it. I was hearing from a friend yesterday who had difficulty booking a taxi. The firm weren't answering phone calls and customers were being redirected to the firm's Facebook page instead.

I know the problem - it's the same with some restaurants. People don't realise how dangerous Facebook is - the other day I was looking at the 'friends' of one of my oldest friends and noticed that in quite a few cases I could see their date of birth, even though they're not 'friends' of mine (though some of them are friends).

  5. I agree with your distrust. But, users do not need to remember every login they have if they use a password keeper. I have 103 logins in mine.

Me too, but most people don't.
