Index to Newcastle Evening Chronicle Death Notices 1885-1906

    Death notices in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle relate to people who lived throughout the north east and even further afield. I've been surprised by the number of my own ancestors who have been included here.

    Thanks for this - a quick look and I found that a relative and his wife, whose deaths were registered in the same quarter, had death notices in the paper 3 days apart. Intriguing......

    These links take one to a site called "Buyer's Friend" which has nothing to do with family history. An index to the death notices can be found on Genuki at
    https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/NBL/DeathNotices The actual notices are accessible through either the British Newspaper Archive or Find My Past although a little creativity may be needed when searching - I had to use just the surname and then filter to the actual date.
