Yes, but don't be surprised if they say No, or want to charge you.

If you believe that the copy certificates weren't sent in it won't be only your friend's relatives who were affected. I referred you to the Luard case earlier so that you could use a similar technique.

How is the search for your friend's cousins going?

Yes, local register offices will not provide you with any information from a birth, marriage or death registration unless you purchase the certificate.

However, since you have an exact date of birth from other sources, they should be able to tell you for free if they have the birth registration or not.

My friend seems to come from one of those families where they all kept in touch. She has umpteen cousins, and every summer they have a family reunion in a park. All very informal. and they all bring food and have a whale of a time!

Please explain to your friend that she has tens of thousands of cousins she has never heard of, that thousands of them are researching her ancestors, and hundreds of them are LostCousins members.

If you want to make use of this resource on her behalf she must join - this rule applies too ALL forum members. People who are not interested in connecting with their own cousins are not welcome here, because it goes against everything that LostCousins stands for.

Perhaps you didn't explain to her that membership was free and that you would enter the data on her behalf?
