This link is an incomplete index to details about some of the patients admitted to the asylum. A large number of people are included but only represent a small fraction of the total number of records available. There are records from 1859-1988 but records including personal details are closed for 100 years. The people indexed relate to:

    1. Registers of Admission (Females) NRO 3680/36 1859-70. Date of admission is given, full name, previous abode and date of discharge
    2. Male Case Books [no ref. or date] c 1890s. Date of admission is given, full name, age, marital status, occupation, address, previous abode, date of discharge, case number and the related volume number.

I've referred to various case books and highly recommend accessing these records. Patients notes seem to cover 2-3 pages giving details about the patient and the course of their illness. Photographs are often attached.

    A very rewarding resource!

    Miscellaneous:

    - Patients resident in the asylum at the time of the 1891 census are listed under their initials in the census.
    - Vital events that take place in the asylum are listed in the "Family Notices" section of the "Morpeth Herald" newspaper. Search with a surname and "County Asylum" at The British Newspapers or FindmyPast
